Compiler & tooling

The tools and limits of this exact package.

Sn is under heavy development. Reference extracted from this release’s bundled standard library. Public API examples are not an exhaustive compatibility test. Read the matching release guide for tested workflows and limitations. Read the status →

Included tools

snc, snls and snbind come from the same Ubuntu 22.04 build. The package includes 413 standard-library Sn source files and matching native runtime libraries. The compiler implementation and private Git history are excluded.

Compiler commands

snc check file.sn checks a program. snc run file.sn executes through the JIT. snc build file.sn -o program compiles a native executable. Invoke snc without arguments to print usage; this exits with status 2. This toolchain does not provide a standalone --version command: identify it by its release archive and MANIFEST.json.

JIT scope

The compiler can execute through the JIT. A complete persistent IDE hot-reload workflow is not delivered by this archive. Do not confuse one-shot JIT execution with the intended live editor experience.

Known limitations

Automatic C header preparation fails the fresh preview test during complete operation capture. This workflow is known broken in this preview.

Full sanitizer validation and exhaustive public API validation were not completed for this preserved delivery. This package has not been validated for Windows, macOS, embedded targets, older kernels, glibc below 2.35, or musl-based Linux systems. SnAPI is a separate product with its own platform support. There is no stability or cross-preview compatibility guarantee. Treat it as an experimental toolchain, not a production-ready or safety-certified tool.

Performance

No benchmark claim follows from this release smoke test. Scripting-speed compilation and runtime performance comparable to or faster than C++ remain product goals; measured results require exact workloads and configurations.
